FOCUS

fo·cus (noun): directed attention : emphasis; direction sense; a state or condition permitting clear perception or understanding

fo·cus (verb): to cause to be concentrated

My word for 2021 is FOCUS.  I chose this word because I have a lot of fantastic things rolling around in my mind that need to get out. I chose this word because I have things I want to take off of my To-Do lists and accomplish . . . finally. I chose this word because I have a tendency to multi-task, oftentimes unsuccessfully, and can get distracted easily.

FOCUS requires that I need to act differently, or in active-speak, I want to act differently. So, what am I going to do differently?

  1. Daily To-Do and Don’t-Do lists
  2. Prioritizing activities from most important to least important to do that day
  3. Overuse my calendar by scheduling activities, i.e., setting aside time to do things, including down time
  4. Do one activity at a time (no multi-tasking)
  5. Write my daily accomplishments/successes on my calendar
  6. Take a day off to rest

Okay now…game on!

What is your word for 2021?

  1. I feel you. I do you my calendars but I have multiple and they need to be consolidated. I try to do that now taking my personal calendar and incorporating it with professional and vice-versa or else I will have double booked.

    1. LOL! I put personal & biz items on one calendar but I have 2 calendar systems – one on my paper and one on my phone. BUT, if I don’t put something on my phone calendar which will beep, I miss it! I think the trick about staying focussed is realizing when you have drifted away and then going back to focus. I don’t think we can do it constantly 24/7/365.
