FOCUS

fo·cus (noun): directed attention : emphasis; direction sense; a state or condition permitting clear perception or understanding

fo·cus (verb): to cause to be concentrated

My word for 2021 is FOCUS.  I chose this word because I have a lot of fantastic things rolling around in my mind that need to get out. I chose this word because I have things I want to take off of my To-Do lists and accomplish . . . finally. I chose this word because I have a tendency to multi-task, oftentimes unsuccessfully, and can get distracted easily.

Review 2019 Today!

This is a repost from January 2013. I just tweaked it slightly.

All the personal growth experts advise people to set aside time during the last week of the December and do a review of the year.  During this year-end review, you look to see which goals were reached and which were not, which strategies or ideas worked for you and which did not, you recall milestones and generally reflect on your life.  The review gives you more solid directions, things to keep doing, for the upcoming year so you can live a more purposeful and happy life.

I wholeheartedly agree with doing a review, but I have a problem.  Continue reading “Review 2019 Today!”

Personal Development Apps

We all know that personal development encompasses not only shifting the way using-smartphone-saidaonlinewe think but also shifting the way we take care of our bodies, finances, emotions, relationships and our spiritual relationship. (see It’s All Part of the Same Pie). Fortunately for us today, we live in an app-centered world and our smartphones and tablets to help us in making these shifts. The apps are available for both iOS (Apple) and Android devices and some can also be used on your computer. Here are some:

I Hate Goals!

It’s the beginning of a new year and everyone is talking about setting goals. I hate goals! They are the bane of my existence. Every January, I would think about what goals I wanted to reach and write them on paper along with a goal date. I would go the extra distance and post them around my house. And then life would happen and I wouldn’t reach my goals. I’d feel bad, wonder what was wrong with me and view goal setting as an empty exercise. But last year, something happened… I set some goals and reached them! I am so excited now and my goal setting model is changed forever! I’m assuming you feel the same way about goals or you wouldn’t be reading this post so I going to share with you my new Continue reading “I Hate Goals!”

It’s All Part of the Same Pie

I’m guilty. I’ve written post after post talking about the value of reading or listening to material that improves the way you think and act. An enlightened mind takes your thoughts and actions to new, higher levels of achievement. And I’ve spent my time doing exactly that.

slicedpieBut recently I had a revelation. Personal development encompasses more than the way you think. It also encompasses other areas of your life.

  1. Your Physical Being. Being healthy is vital. If you feel sluggish, you act sluggishly. You certainly don’t want to read or listen to anything.  Be sure to incorporate exercise into your day. You can start small by just adding more walking more during your day. Invest in a good pedometer to count your steps. Exercise reduces stress, and lowers blood pressure and cholesterol. Watch what you eat. A steady diet of fast food, skipped breakfasts and snack food can lead to deficiencies in the nutrients and vitamins that your body needs to function properly. Add more fruit, vegetables and water to your diet. You will feel great and have more energy!

Smell the Roses

Last month I set a huge business goal, and since I was very serious, I enlisted the help accountability partners (yes, I got two). I reached that goal this week. But to my surprise I wasn’t excited. I didn’t throw a party with balloons, party hats and noisemakers. I just nodded my head and set another goal building on the one I had reached. What was wrong with me?! I had worked hard. A quote then came to mind, Continue reading “Smell the Roses”
