Mini Vay Cay

A while back I wrote a blog post about taking moments out of your hustle-bustle life to stop and smell the roses.  Life isn’t all about the money and getting all the things done on your To-Do list.  Well, over the past year while running a business, writing a book, blogging on two blogs and starting a radio show, I forgot to take time for myself.

So, starting at the beginning of this year I’m reviving my practice of stopping to smell the roses.  I’ll be going on my “mini vay-cay” (if that word is not spelled right, don’t let me know) once a month. To keep myself accountable, I will share pictures and a short post about my mini vay-cay with you each month.

You’re probably asking, “Why is she so hyped-up about a mini vay-cay and what does it have to do with personal growth?” Continue reading “Mini Vay Cay”

New New Year’s Resolution

It’s almost the beginning of a new year with new resolutions so I thought this post should be dusted off and shared again….

JUST AS a young man’s fancy turns to love in the spring, it’s January of a new year and people’s fancy turns to New Year resolutions.  People resolve to change – lose weight, make more money, exercise more, eat healthier, save more money, etc.  People resolve to do, or not to do, things that will improve their lives and give themselves a year to make the change.  Resolutions are good and people are sincere in making these yearly resolutions.  But statistics show that by the end of February, most people have forgotten their resolutions only to remember them again in December when it’s time to make New Year resolutions again.  This is not good.  I propose a new New Year’s Resolution: instead of only treating the beginning of a new year as a time to make resolutions, treat the beginning of a new day as a time to make resolutions.

I call my proposal New Day resolutions.  Continue reading “New New Year’s Resolution”

The Best Gift Ever

Anointed Women in Christ Blog & Vlog's avatarAnointed Women in Christ Blog

by Sharman J. Monroe

Today is Christmas Eve, the height of the holiday season.  If you are buying gifts, wrapping gifts or buying food to share with family and friends, you are blessed.  If you are financially strapped and your giving is limited, you are blessed.  Why? Because each and every one of you has been given the best gift ever.

Christmas is not about our ability to give.  It’s about what God gave to us – Jesus Christ.  God created us to be with Him for eternity. Sin, however, detoured us from God’s plan and only a sinless blood sacrifice could put us back on track.  Nothing and no one in this world fit the requirements. BUT God…being omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, already had the fix in place!  (1 Peter 1:17-21; Revelation 13:8). On that day in Bethlehem,

Marriage Isn’t For You

Seth Adam Smith's avatarSeth Adam Smith

Having been married only a year and a half, I’ve recently come to the conclusion that marriage isn’t for me.

Now before you start making assumptions, keep reading.

I met my wife in high school when we were 15 years old. We were friends for ten years until…until we decided no longer wanted to be just friends. 🙂 I strongly recommend that best friends fall in love. Good times will be had by all.

Nevertheless, falling in love with my best friend did not prevent me from having certain fears and anxieties about getting married. The nearer Kim and I approached the decision to marry, the more I was filled with a paralyzing fear. Was I ready? Was I making the right choice? Was Kim the right person to marry? Would she make me happy?

Then, one fateful night, I shared these thoughts and concerns with my dad.

Perhaps each…

Build Great Strength

100218-F-3108S-070

Don’t run from failure or hide from failure or avoid the possibility of failure. Use failure to improve.

If you’re not willing to fail, you won’t be able to grow. To become stronger and more capable, you must push yourself beyond what you already know you can do.

It is only by lifting more weight than you’ve lifted before that you strengthen your muscles. It is by experiencing failure that you discover new ways to succeed.

Failure and disappointment can serve as powerful steps along the path to magnificent achievement. In dealing with the difficult times, you build great strength with which to create good, meaningful, satisfying and fulfilling value in your world.

Success means nothing if it is not earned. Failure is an important part of earning success.

The road to achievement will constantly test you. Be willing to take those tests, and to work through those tests, and achievement is yours.
