Getting Better, Inspiration

Are You The Judge? (Finale)

This series of posts have been about judging people, i.e., reaching decisions or assumptions about people or their actions before you meet them and sometimes after you meet them.

Judging people is a bad habit and the person most harmed by judging is you.  I admitted in the earlier post that I used to judge people all the time and I did it as a defense mechanism. But from reading personal growth books, I grew into accepting myself as I am and learned to truly accept other people the way they are.  However, I still sometimes catch myself judging so I implemented some strategies to Continue reading “Are You The Judge? (Finale)”

This post on judging people was supposed to give you tools to help you to stop judging others.  I decided to hold off on the helpful tools post because I needed to make sure I wasn’t just spouting off and was talking about something personal to me.

In case you are not one of my regular readers, you should know the purpose of my blog is to share my experiences and personal growth lessons I am learning at this juncture in my life.  So when I finished the first post on judging people I wondered why I felt compelled to write it. Now when I use the word “judge or judging”, I mean making a decision or assumption about someone before you meet and talk with him or her.  In the first post, I admitted to being guilty of judging people.  But the more I thought about why I was writing the post the more I came to realize Continue reading “Are You The Judge (Part 2)”

Are You The Judge? (Part I)

Have you ever seen a stranger across the room and, based on what you see, made a decision about that person?  Have you ever made a judgment about a person based on what he or she does for a living or has done in the past?  Of course you have. We all do it. I’ve done it to other people and people have done it to me.

Judging someone is about forming an opinion about that person without all the facts, before you get to know him or her.  I’m not going to talk about how wrong it is to judge another person because I think you already know that.  I’m going to point out how judging someone hurts you in three specific ways: Continue reading “Are You The Judge?
