Years ago, I wanted to write a book that inspired and encouraged women. I didn’t know what I wanted to say or how to say it. So other than having the idea, I did nothing.
When I started this blog in 2010, I had in the back of my mind that I could use the blog to record stuff now that I would put into a book later. I could also use the blog to dip my toe in the water to see if what I wrote about really helped others. Well, I got solid feedback telling me people were being helped. So I wrote and wrote, and kept getting great feedback but I still didn’t see a book. I didn’t see any commonality in my posts to make a book.
Now life is funny. Last year, I helped two friends, now authors, produce their first books. I edited their books. It was exciting being part of the creative and book publishing processes. And my desire to write a book rose again. It really kicked off in November. I toyed with a concept for a book, but finally settled on another in December. And began writing! So far, I have:
1) an outline of 13 chapters
2) an Introduction 95% complete
3) three chapters 95% complete
4) an editor (thanks to my BFFL, Shirley!)
5) a serious accountability partner (thanks Lanette!)
6) time blocked during the day to write
Although the experts say you shouldn’t bother with a title until a book is finished, a title jumped into my head as soon as I started my outline. No, I am not going to tell you the title. I will tell you this: the subject of my book is personal development and I am using my blog posts in the book!
I set the deadline for my first draft as January 31. I missed it, but I am still writing. My next deadline is March 30. I will keep you posted on the progress of my book. Any all encouragement is welcome!
I’m so excited for you and proud of you!! YAY!
Thanks Joy! You got the book writing ball rolling in our group. I hope my book enjoys the widespread success of yours.
