It Was Achieved On Account Of

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines accountability as subject to giving an account; answerable.  We are not strangers to accountability.  In our youth, we were accountable to our teachers, our parents and other authority figures. As adults, we are accountable to our bosses and supervisors, maybe spouses.  In most instances, our accountability is involuntary – a relationship forced upon us which we grudgingly accept.  Many times, the relationship leaves such bad taste in our mouths that hearing the word “accountability” makes us break out in a cold sweat.

We are all adults now and it’s time to do a paradigm shift, to learn a new way of viewing accountability, to see it as a good thing. Why? Because accountability benefits your personal growth in several ways:

1. It keeps you focused.  Unexpected situations and events come along which require your immediate, and sometimes long-term, time and attention.  That’s life.  Accountability helps to get you back on track.

2. It produces long-lasting big results. Continue reading “It Was Achieved On Account Of”

Review 2013 Today!

All the personal growth experts advise people to set aside time during the last week of the December and do a review of the year.  During this year-end review, you look to see which goals were reached and which were not, which strategies or ideas worked for you and which did not, you recall milestones and you generally reflect on your life.  The review gives you more solid directions, things to keep doing, for the upcoming year so you can live a more purposeful and happy life.

I wholeheartedly agree with doing a review, but I have a problem.  Continue reading “Review 2013 Today!”

It’s Never Too Late

It is never too late to be who you might have been.
George Elliot

My posts to my blog have been few and far between this year.  Shame on me.  While I am focusing on writing my book and writing for Anointed Women in Christ Blog (http://anointedwomeninchrist.wordpress.com), these are not excuses for neglecting my readers.   I will do better starting today.  It’s funny though – the moment I decided to take my writing seriously and dedicate a block of time to it everyday, topics and words disappeared from my head.  The other day, I came across the George Elliott quote above and rebooted myself.  Since I am putting a lot of my stories on personal development into my book, I don’t want to put them here (then you won’t buy my book!!).  But since personal development and re-invention are dear to my heart and I don’t want to you hanging, I will feed you from sources other than my experiences.

It is never too late to be who you might have been.

Very often, people ask me when they should start their personal development process or if they are too old to start one.  No matter what happened in your past and no matter what you thought yesterday, Continue reading “It’s Never Too Late”

Motivation, The Book

An Excerpt from My Upcoming Book…………

I know many of you are wondering what I am doing since you have not seen any new posts from me.  I am still working on my book and have set a deadline of July 1st for a completed first draft.  But at this time, I want to give you, my loyal reader,  a sneak peek at what is to come.  Here is an excerpt from upcoming book on personal development.  Enjoy! (and feel free to leave a comment!)

A JOURNAL A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”

Exodus 17:14 (NJKV)

God knows our nature.  He knows that as human beings, we are easily distracted and forgetful.  Throughout the Bible, God instructed people to write things down (Exodus 34:27-28, Deuteronomy 6:6-9, Deuteronomy 11:1-21, Deuteronomy 31:19).  He did so because He wanted to make sure consistent information was remembered and passed to later generations.

The act of writing information is a profound action with a profound effect on you.  When you write something, you engage your mind and body, your whole self.  Let me explain. Continue reading “An Excerpt from My Upcoming Book…………”

Express Yourself!!

I like to encourage people to invest in themselves via personal development. Personal development is very near and dear to me.  I have immersed myself into the subject for over 12 years and have witnessed my personal growth. That’s why I devoted this blog to the subject.  While there are many keys, or elements, to personal development, there is one key most people overlook or don’t know about.  That key is to regularly do something you like.

One of the things I love doing is sewing.   Mrs. Spriggs, my neighbor when I was a little girl, knew how to sew and I would spend hours with her while she cut, pinned and sewed fabric with her magic machine into dresses.  I was enthralled.  A few years ago, I had the opportunity to take a beginner’s sewing class and my love for sewing has grown.  Continue reading “Express Yourself!!”

Are You Missing You?

Are You Missing You?

The other day I was having a pity party.  When I had a job, I had a high level of income and I could buy lots of stuff.  That income has dropped since I chose to become self-employed.  So while I was sitting at my computer wearing my “poor me” face, I decided I should look for a job-sharing or part-time job.  Yeah, I reasoned I could work part-time and make some extra change and still have time to devote to my business.  Yeah, I could have my cake and eat too! Yeah!  So, I started my Google search and found some websites for employment.  But as I was completing an application, I heard something inside me softly say, “If you work for someone else, you will never develop into the person you need to be for your business.”  I froze.  Needless to say, I immediately left those websites and have not been back.  But the incident got me thinking, “What kind of person am I going to develop into (I got excited!) and what would I miss if I didn’t keep moving forward?  It also got me thinking, Continue reading “Are You Missing You?”

Look Up!

It’s Monday morning.  The alarm goes off, you jump out of bed and the race begins.  You race through Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday doing job things and family things without looking up.  Saturday and Sunday come and you race around doing chores and other weekend stuff without looking up.  Monday morning comes, the alarm goes off, you jump out of bed and off you go. Week after week, month after month, year after year, without looking up.  LOOK UP!

Now I know if you are an adult, you have bills to pay and responsibilities to handle, but life is not just about paying bills and handling responsibilities.  I am not saying to forget them.  What I am saying is life is a gift so, on purpose, look up and take in all you can.

A few years ago, I set a personal goal to do at least one new thing every year, some thing I had never done before.  Continue reading “Look Up!”
