The Book

Egad! What Have I Done?

About this time last year, I started writing a book.

I was inspired, in part, by my friends, Joy T.J. Riley (@GetJoyNTheMorn; http://getyourjoyinthemorning.blogspot.com) and Angela Solomon (@mlmwives; http://www.mlmwives.com) who had just written books and felt I could do it too.  I picked the topic of personal development since I passionate about people living up to their full God-given potential. In March, I asked my long-time and best friend, Shirley, to edit the seven chapters I had written so far.  Her review helped me to see I needed to revamp my book so that anyone who picked it up could understand and benefit from it.  Throughout the summer, I wrote on and off, revising chapters.

Last month, unbeknownst to me, Joy Continue reading “Egad! What Have I Done?”

Inspiration

Thinking and Knowing

My friend, Joy Riley (getyourjoyinthemorning.blogspot.com), sent this message to me.   She received it from her friend, Cypriana McCray.   It had such a profound effect on me that I want to share it here.

Thinking is powerful. Knowing is even more so.

Thinking is a function of your mind. Knowing encompasses all you are.

What you think can change from moment to moment. What you know is always a part of you.

What you know goes beyond all doubt. What you know has the clear, powerful presence of truth.

Use your outstanding mind to think. Use your magnificent life to know.

Knowing comes from experience, guided by purpose, and from feeling the wonder of all existence. Know that you can do it, that you can be it, that you can experience it, and you will.

It’s Never Too Late

It is never too late to be who you might have been.
George Elliot

My posts to my blog have been few and far between this year.  Shame on me.  While I am focusing on writing my book and writing for Anointed Women in Christ Blog (http://anointedwomeninchrist.wordpress.com), these are not excuses for neglecting my readers.   I will do better starting today.  It’s funny though – the moment I decided to take my writing seriously and dedicate a block of time to it everyday, topics and words disappeared from my head.  The other day, I came across the George Elliott quote above and rebooted myself.  Since I am putting a lot of my stories on personal development into my book, I don’t want to put them here (then you won’t buy my book!!).  But since personal development and re-invention are dear to my heart and I don’t want to you hanging, I will feed you from sources other than my experiences.

It is never too late to be who you might have been.

Very often, people ask me when they should start their personal development process or if they are too old to start one.  No matter what happened in your past and no matter what you thought yesterday, Continue reading “It’s Never Too Late”

Motivation, The Book

An Excerpt from My Upcoming Book…………

I know many of you are wondering what I am doing since you have not seen any new posts from me.  I am still working on my book and have set a deadline of July 1st for a completed first draft.  But at this time, I want to give you, my loyal reader,  a sneak peek at what is to come.  Here is an excerpt from upcoming book on personal development.  Enjoy! (and feel free to leave a comment!)

A JOURNAL A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.”

Exodus 17:14 (NJKV)

God knows our nature.  He knows that as human beings, we are easily distracted and forgetful.  Throughout the Bible, God instructed people to write things down (Exodus 34:27-28, Deuteronomy 6:6-9, Deuteronomy 11:1-21, Deuteronomy 31:19).  He did so because He wanted to make sure consistent information was remembered and passed to later generations.

The act of writing information is a profound action with a profound effect on you.  When you write something, you engage your mind and body, your whole self.  Let me explain. Continue reading “An Excerpt from My Upcoming Book…………”

Encouragement, Getting Better, Motivation

Express Yourself!!

I like to encourage people to invest in themselves via personal development. Personal development is very near and dear to me.  I have immersed myself into the subject for over 12 years and have witnessed my personal growth. That’s why I devoted this blog to the subject.  While there are many keys, or elements, to personal development, there is one key most people overlook or don’t know about.  That key is to regularly do something you like.

One of the things I love doing is sewing.   Mrs. Spriggs, my neighbor when I was a little girl, knew how to sew and I would spend hours with her while she cut, pinned and sewed fabric with her magic machine into dresses.  I was enthralled.  A few years ago, I had the opportunity to take a beginner’s sewing class and my love for sewing has grown.  Continue reading “Express Yourself!!”

Blog: The Book

Years ago, I wanted to write a book that inspired and encouraged women.  I didn’t know what I wanted to say or how to say it.  So other than having the idea, I did nothing.

When I started this blog in 2010, I had in the back of my mind that I could use the blog to record stuff now that I would put into a book later.  I could also use the blog to dip my toe in the water to see if what I wrote about really helped others.   Well, I got solid feedback telling me people were being helped.  So I wrote and wrote, and kept getting great feedback but I still didn’t see a book.  I didn’t see any commonality in my posts to make a book.

Now life is funny.  Last year, I helped two friends, now authors, produce their first books.  I edited their books.   It was exciting being part of the creative and book publishing processes.   And my desire to write a book rose again.  It really kicked off in November.  I toyed with a concept for a book, but finally settled on another in December.  And began writing!  So far, I have: Continue reading “Blog: The Book”
