How to See Opportunity Everywhere You Go — Leadership Freak

I am re-blogging this article because I found it directly relates to personal development! It’s not THEM; it’s YOU!!

How you show up— your attitude— greatly affects any given situation.

Kudos to @DanRockwell!

The way you show up impacts what you see. Leaders who show up to fix things see problems and inadequacies. Leaders who show up to celebrate progress see strengths and opportunities. The world stinks: When the whole world stinks, the stench is about you, not the world. It’s like a man with a mustache after […]

Women Do Wonders as Entrepreneurs

by Sarah Brooks

Women occupy the same employment roles as men do, including more and more positions as entrepreneurs and business developers. While entrepreneurialism is a lifestyle choice as much as it is a job, there are many features that make women stand out for their autonomous business initiatives.

Men and women are motivated by some of the same things; especially in business where cash rewards and benefits are a large part of the picture. But personal satisfaction is at play too, so it is important to recognize some of the things that make women unique, and ideally suited for entrepreneurial roles.

Today’s business development climate includes resources specifically targeting female entrepreneurs. Organizations like SBA, for example, routinely lend assistance to start-up efforts launched by women. And mentorship between women is also on the rise, as successful women pass their understanding of businesses practices and trends to one another. While particular skill sets enable women to succeed in specialized fields, there is nonetheless common ground between women working across a variety of industries. The following considerations Continue reading “Women Do Wonders as Entrepreneurs”

As You Start 2013

It’s the beginning of a new year, the time when people take steps to change themselves or their lives for the better. I’m no different. I’ve made a list of my goals for this year and am in the process of posting the list on bright neon paper around my house.

One of my goals is to open an account on Pinterest. What is Pinterest you say? Pinterest is an on-line bulletin board where people pin or post things they like or want to share.  Continue reading “As You Start 2013”

Reading4Champions: The Traveler’s Gift

Hello Champions!

We have read many books over the past year.  Each book has helped us to re-think the way we view ourselves and life so we can become better individuals.  I highly recommend that you re-read these books a year or two from now.  You will find you that pick up concepts you didn’t on your first read.  I know that is what I have experienced.  Now, to our book for the month of January.  I am giving you this book now because it might influence the New Year’s resolution you make.  It did for me.  Besides, the book is a great read for champions.  The name of the book is “The Traveler’s Gift” by Andy Andrews.

This book really resonated with me.  Although it is a story, I found myself Continue reading “Reading4Champions: The Traveler’s Gift”

Getting Better, Leadership

Leadership Defined

The other day, I was reading a Facebook post praising a mentor of mine.  I agreed wholeheartedly with the post and wanted to add my two cents.  I began to compose a comment saying how I learned more from watching what he did than from what he told me to do.  And it hit me…..a leader is someone who models behavior that people follow.  And it hit me again…..I am a leader.

You see, my definition of leader was narrow.  To me, a leader was a person who had been to a place or achieved a goal he was leading people to.  The old “I’ve been to the top of Mt. Everest so I know the terrain and can lead you there” definition.  Since I have goals I have not achieved, I didn’t see myself as a leader.  After all, what “terrain” did I know?  Why would people follow me down a road I know nothing about? Continue reading “Leadership Defined”

GET MOTIVATED!

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the GET MOTIVATED! business seminar held in my city. (www.getmotivated.com) If you have never attended one, you are missing something good!  I had a wonderful day and learned a lot.  I thought I would share my experience with you.

I found out about the seminar in an email from a friend inviting me to attend.  Being the geek that I am, I went to the website to see what was what.  According to the website, “the GET MOTIVATED Seminar is an action-packed, fun-filled, explosive, exciting, inspiring, skill-building business event that is world-famous for its mega-watt superstar speakers and spectacular stage production.”  Okay.  I clicked on the event for my city to see who would be speaking.  Scheduled to speak were Rudy Guiliani, Gen. Colin Powell, Steve Forbes, Dan Rather, Terry Bradshaw, Rick Belluzzo, Krish Dhanam and Zig Ziglar!  Continue reading “GET MOTIVATED!”
