Smell the Roses

Last month I set a huge business goal, and since I was very serious, I enlisted the help accountability partners (yes, I got two). I reached that goal this week. But to my surprise I wasn’t excited. I didn’t throw a party with balloons, party hats and noisemakers. I just nodded my head and set another goal building on the one I had reached. What was wrong with me?! I had worked hard. A quote then came to mind, Continue reading “Smell the Roses”

Getting Better

It’s Hard To See The Picture When You Are In The Frame

I’m doing a re-posting because it’s important to know that although you don’t feel different as you walk your journey and make changes in your life, don’t give up.

It’s August….the heat has let up for now….it’s not raining today…  Whatever the reason, I thought I would do some self-assessment this week.   If you read my blogs, you know I believe self-improvement is critical in anyone’s life.  You know I read motivating books and magazines, and listen to positive tapes.  (if you don’t know, you can click Books on Personal Development in the top Menu).

Recently, I attended a leadership boot camp.  For my company, boot camp means honest talk and guidance to get you to the next level in your personal development; to get you out of your comfort zone so you will become a better person, a better leader.  As Tim Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Workweek, says, “The most important actions are never comfortable.”   Continue reading “It’s Hard To See The Picture When You Are In The Frame”

New New Year’s Resolution

It’s almost the beginning of a new year with new resolutions so I thought this post should be dusted off and shared again….

JUST AS a young man’s fancy turns to love in the spring, it’s January of a new year and people’s fancy turns to New Year resolutions.  People resolve to change – lose weight, make more money, exercise more, eat healthier, save more money, etc.  People resolve to do, or not to do, things that will improve their lives and give themselves a year to make the change.  Resolutions are good and people are sincere in making these yearly resolutions.  But statistics show that by the end of February, most people have forgotten their resolutions only to remember them again in December when it’s time to make New Year resolutions again.  This is not good.  I propose a new New Year’s Resolution: instead of only treating the beginning of a new year as a time to make resolutions, treat the beginning of a new day as a time to make resolutions.

I call my proposal New Day resolutions.  Continue reading “New New Year’s Resolution”

Are You The Judge? (Finale)

This series of posts have been about judging people, i.e., reaching decisions or assumptions about people or their actions before you meet them and sometimes after you meet them.

Judging people is a bad habit and the person most harmed by judging is you.  I admitted in the earlier post that I used to judge people all the time and I did it as a defense mechanism. But from reading personal growth books, I grew into accepting myself as I am and learned to truly accept other people the way they are.  However, I still sometimes catch myself judging so I implemented some strategies to Continue reading “Are You The Judge? (Finale)”
