Question for Comment: What have you been procrastinating about?  What are you going to do to get going?

The Book

Book Update – June

A quick note here cause I’m winding down.  Or gearing up, depending upon how you look at it.

I printed out my entire book two weeks ago.  I’m in the process of doing what I call Phase One editing.  Phase One is me editing for grammar, spelling and punctuation.  I’m also making sure the sentences and paragraphs flow together and there are no gaps in information.  To my surprise I’m re-learning or reminding myself of many personal growth concepts I wrote about.  Continue reading “Book Update – June”

The Book

Book Update – April

Ever see a scene in a movie where a person is running toward a place, but instead of the place getting closer, the place keeps moving further away from the person?  That’s how I felt about my book.

I’ve been writing and editing, but the end seemed no where in sight.  That is until the other day when I decided to give a status report to my publisher and my accountability partner.  I inventoried my work and was very surprised.  This is what I discovered:

1- There is a working title for the book which is huge because I wanted one that would grab someone’s attention and make that person want to pick up the book and read it (no, I’m not ready to tell you yet)

2 -There are 17 substantive chapters: 12 are done subject to a few more tweaks before they are submitted to my publisher, 3 are being drafted and 2 need to be written.

3- There are 5 reference/informational chapters, 2 are finalized.

Wow!  The end is in sight.

Check back in May for another update. Smiley

KITES AWAY!

This blog is about personal growth and the things to do to develop one’s self into a better person.  One of the goals you should set is a period of time to relax.  I’m not talking about sleeping.  I’m talking about sitting back and shutting your mind off from all the stuff written on your To-Do list.  I know this is counter-intuitive given the hustle-bustle, “gotta get it done yesterday” society we live in. But taking time to not do something productive, and stop and smell the roses of life rejuvenates you.  So, I took my advice on March 30th and enjoyed Washington, D.C.’s annual Blossom Kite Festival. It was a perfect spring day. The temperature was 60 degrees. The sky was bright blue with only a few clouds drifting across it.  The breeze came and carried the kites high.

Here are some pictures.  Enjoy  :)!

It Was Achieved On Account Of

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines accountability as subject to giving an account; answerable.  We are not strangers to accountability.  In our youth, we were accountable to our teachers, our parents and other authority figures. As adults, we are accountable to our bosses and supervisors, maybe spouses.  In most instances, our accountability is involuntary – a relationship forced upon us which we grudgingly accept.  Many times, the relationship leaves such bad taste in our mouths that hearing the word “accountability” makes us break out in a cold sweat.

We are all adults now and it’s time to do a paradigm shift, to learn a new way of viewing accountability, to see it as a good thing. Why? Because accountability benefits your personal growth in several ways:

1. It keeps you focused.  Unexpected situations and events come along which require your immediate, and sometimes long-term, time and attention.  That’s life.  Accountability helps to get you back on track.

2. It produces long-lasting big results. Continue reading “It Was Achieved On Account Of”

Review 2013 Today!

All the personal growth experts advise people to set aside time during the last week of the December and do a review of the year.  During this year-end review, you look to see which goals were reached and which were not, which strategies or ideas worked for you and which did not, you recall milestones and you generally reflect on your life.  The review gives you more solid directions, things to keep doing, for the upcoming year so you can live a more purposeful and happy life.

I wholeheartedly agree with doing a review, but I have a problem.  Continue reading “Review 2013 Today!”

As You Start 2013

It’s the beginning of a new year, the time when people take steps to change themselves or their lives for the better. I’m no different. I’ve made a list of my goals for this year and am in the process of posting the list on bright neon paper around my house.

One of my goals is to open an account on Pinterest. What is Pinterest you say? Pinterest is an on-line bulletin board where people pin or post things they like or want to share.  Continue reading “As You Start 2013”
