Women Do Wonders as Entrepreneurs

by Sarah Brooks

Women occupy the same employment roles as men do, including more and more positions as entrepreneurs and business developers. While entrepreneurialism is a lifestyle choice as much as it is a job, there are many features that make women stand out for their autonomous business initiatives.

Men and women are motivated by some of the same things; especially in business where cash rewards and benefits are a large part of the picture. But personal satisfaction is at play too, so it is important to recognize some of the things that make women unique, and ideally suited for entrepreneurial roles.

Today’s business development climate includes resources specifically targeting female entrepreneurs. Organizations like SBA, for example, routinely lend assistance to start-up efforts launched by women. And mentorship between women is also on the rise, as successful women pass their understanding of businesses practices and trends to one another. While particular skill sets enable women to succeed in specialized fields, there is nonetheless common ground between women working across a variety of industries. The following considerations Continue reading “Women Do Wonders as Entrepreneurs”

May Mini Vay-Cay

Hello Folks!

My May mini vay-cay was something I have NEVER done before…..LASER TAG!  What;s that you ask?  Laser Tag is a game of tag people play in a semi-lit arena with obstacles.  You “tag” players or other objects using a hand-held “gun” that emits infrared light.  Players wear a vest or other gear that has targets on it.  When you hit a target, it changes color and you get points.  You also get points for tagging objects in the arena.

I went with my Shechem Covenant Outreach Ministries family.  It was an outing for the young adults and since I consider myself a young adult, Continue reading “May Mini Vay-Cay”

Getting Better

It’s Hard To See The Picture When You Are In The Frame

I’m doing a re-posting because it’s important to know that although you don’t feel different as you walk your journey and make changes in your life, don’t give up.

It’s August….the heat has let up for now….it’s not raining today…  Whatever the reason, I thought I would do some self-assessment this week.   If you read my blogs, you know I believe self-improvement is critical in anyone’s life.  You know I read motivating books and magazines, and listen to positive tapes.  (if you don’t know, you can click Books on Personal Development in the top Menu).

Recently, I attended a leadership boot camp.  For my company, boot camp means honest talk and guidance to get you to the next level in your personal development; to get you out of your comfort zone so you will become a better person, a better leader.  As Tim Ferriss, author of The 4-Hour Workweek, says, “The most important actions are never comfortable.”   Continue reading “It’s Hard To See The Picture When You Are In The Frame”

February Mini Vay-Cay

In January,  I said I was going to reviving my practice of stopping to smell the roses by going on a  “mini vay-cay” each month this year To keep me accountable to you,  I promised to write about it on this blog and post pictures (so you know I did go!)

I know but Feb was a short month!
Feb was a short month!

In February, I went to the National Geographic Museum.  (I’m just getting around to doing this post so I need to add that I will post within two days of coming back from my “mini vay-cay!)  The museum is small but packed with pictures from around the world.

The featured exhibit for February was called Women of Vision and highlighted photographs taken by women for National Geographic.

My favorite exhibit was the photo wall showing all the NatGEO magazine covers.

And I liked the photos of undersea exploration.

“You Need Education to Live”

BOLnew2wexp

This year,  The Leap of Faith Network is embracing  a “12 Months of Giving” campaign.  Each moth this year, we are focusing of collecting and distributing items to people in our community who  have limited resources.  For the month of March, we are collecting books.  This week’s  show honors our book drive and teaches us all that reading changes lives and opens doors.

Born in a family of 17, Milton Whitley grew up on a sharecropping farm in North Carolina. At an early age, he was spanked at school for not being able to spell or read and he started skipping school.  Because he couldn’t read or write, he was erroneously placed in a vocational school for children with mental and physical disabilities and then in special education classes. Milton dropped out of school at the age of 14, Continue reading ““You Need Education to Live””
